Where is the best place to see leopards? I have been asked that quite a lot, both as a guide and as a safari consultant. Some will say the South Luangwa, Zambia, others may say the Okavango Delta, Botswana but the truth of the matter is, you will only find the leopard when the leopard wants to be found. Normally shy and elusive, this feline is arguably the most sought after cat for safari fanatics. Their elusive nature and their pure beauty make the perfect combination.
I may be biased due to my time spent there, but the Sabi Sands in The Greater Kruger and the National Park itself is phenomenal for these cats. From years of habituating them to vehicles, the time people have spent has paid dividends for the guest experience. Not only has the leopard population thrived, but individuals have become relaxed enough to allow incredible photo opportunities. My new release: The Leopard of Londolozi was a picturesque moment at one of South Africa's most famous lodges. As we entered the golden hour one late November afternoon we spotted this leopardess on top of a termite mound. Most of the bushveld was a barren brown hue as the ground patiently awaited the return of rain. But, as luck would have it, the leopard decided to head towards a riverine thicket that still maintained its green vibrancy from the underground water table. Between the trees and with the golden light illuminating her, she turned and looked back over her shoulder, pausing briefly enough for me to capture the serene moment .
You can purchase a limited edition fine art print of this special leopard at my online store. Thank you for looking.
